Men's Fitness - Bacon Guac Cheeseburger

Getting free magazine subscriptions is something I do for me and Eddie all the time (Thank You RewardsGold.com) the latest Magazine to come for Eddie was Men's Fitness (September 2012) and inside Eddie found a recipe for an Awesome Looking Bacon Cheeseburger (page 20) that we just had to try
Looks Amazing right??? For ours we left out the produce and guac but it however did not look the same (but do magazine recipes ever look the same) and could have used a few improvements - - However the flavor of the meat was amazing so I'm going to give you guys the recipe followed by what we would do different

NOTE we didn't use the guacamole in ours or the produce so I left those ingredients off the list - Also I have adjusted the recipe a bit to use 1 pound of meat rather then the 6oz the original recipe called for
The Aced's Take on Men's Fitness Bacon Cheese Burger

-Cooking Spray
-Whole Wheat Buns
-1 pound ground turkey
-2 egg whites
-7 tbsp bread crumbs
-1/2 tsp garlic powder
-1/2 tsp paprika
-1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
-salt and pepper
-Turkey Bacon (2 slices per burger)
-Low fat sliced Cheddar Cheese

Directions
1) Preheat Oven to 400 degrees
2) Line a large baking sheet with foil and spray with cooking spray
3) Mix Ground turkey with egg whites, bread crumbs, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper
4) Make 3-4 burgers and place on baking sheet
5) Add 2 slices of bacon per burger to baking sheet
6) Wrap 3-4 buns individually with foil and place on baking sheet (if there is no room on baking sheet you can place them directly on the oven racks or a second baking sheet)
7) Place everything in the oven and cook for 10 minutes - flip bacon and burgers and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes
8) Remove bacon and buns and set aside
9) Top burgers with cheese and place back in oven for 2 minutes
10) Make sure burgers are no longer pink then take out of oven and assemble with buns, burger, bacon, and any other wanted condiments and/or produce

Our Review
We found the burger to be very flavorful and smelled delicious - - HOWEVER cooking the burger in the oven made it very mushy and didn't give it the sear that we are used to and were looking for . . . We both joked that it was the texture of meatloaf and not very appealing for either of us. We even ended up with a left over burger and that never happens!!! (lol)  Minus the texture the meat had a good flavor, it was nice having a nice warm toasted bun, and the bacon came out surprisingly well.

What we would do different
We will most likely make these burgers again however while the buns and bacon could still be done in the oven the burgers NEEDS to be done outside on the grill or on a flat top/pan inside to give them the sear.
